Flags of the World: Democratic Republic of Congo Flag

After dealing with dictatorships and rule by other countries, the Democratic Republic of Congo was officially adopted on February 20, 2006 after the new constitution was ratified in December of 2005. Many other flags were used before the current flag was adopted.

The background of the Democratic Republic of Congo flag is blue, which represents peace and harmony, which the country is working so hard to establish. A diagonal red stripe runs from the upper right hand corner to the bottom left hand corner and is flanked by two smaller yellow stripes. The color red represents the sacrifices of the country’s heroes, while yellow represents the country’s opulence and wealth.

In the upper left hand corner is a yellow, five pointed star. It is a symbol of hope and ambition for the people who reside in the country.
